Truck & Trailer Fire

A guy had a truck and a big travel trailer parked in his yard and maybe the trailer had an electrical fault and it started a fire and by the time someone noticed it and called the dept the whole thing was gone. It was 4:30 in the morning so that is why no one saw it burning until it was too late. The new fire truck sure works good. It puts out compressed air foam in huge quantities and that sure works good on fires. Its a good thing the people have insurance on it because the truck and trailer are worth about $60,000.00.

Plywood Mill Fire

A fire that broke out in the morning of the 06th February 2007 has destroyed one of the community's main employers, left some residents out of their homes and the rest without water. The impact of the fire goes beyond the mill and its workforce, the town has declared a state of emergency and implemented a boil water advisory. Firefighters from Nipigon, Red Rock, Lake Helen and Dorion joined forces to battle the stubborn fire that claimed the Nipigon Multiply and emptied the town's water reservoir.

Portable water has been trucked to the Nipigon Hospital, schools have been closed, the immediate aftermath of the blaze is nothing short of devastating for the Northshore community.

Traffic Accident #2

The accident was 35 klms east of Nipigon. Nipigon firefighters extricated two women from the car with serious injuries and they also extricated two women that had died at the scene.

Scheiber Firefighters were also on scene and they extricated a single woman from the half-ton truck seen in the pictures. The four women in the car were from out of the country (Japan) and were traveling across the country on a sight seeing tour. They had been in the country for a while as exchange students and thought they would like to see more of our country before heading home to Japan.

The last picture shows Ontario's air ambulance coming in to land on the highway to transport two injured women to hospital for treatment.

Another fire on the Highway

A real hot one... It was 35 degrees celcius that day...:

The Nipigon Fire Department was called out to a transport fire 25 klms east of the township on the Trans-Canada highway. The truck had been burning for about 45 minutes before the fire department got there so the entire truck chassis was burning out of control.

It only took the department 15 minutes to have it under control using their fire truck that has compressed air foam unit on it.

The foam worked excellent to extinguish this type of fire.

Fire on Highway 17

A large transport (semi) was pulling three others, all brand new 2005 Mack trucks, down the highway to deliver them to a dealer who sells them when the middle one caught on fire maybe from a brake dragging or something and caused all of them to start burning. The guys of the Nipigon Fire Department could save the front one with minor damage to it. Each truck is worth between $150,000.00 and $200,000.00.

Transport Accident #2

This driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and missed the merge lane. That is where the two main highways that cross Canada meet. So when he missed his turn he went straight ahead and almost ended up on the national railway train tracks.

Garage Fire

How dangerous it is to fight against garage fires shows the last picture. It is an acetelene bottle that blew apart in the fire. Please don't be frightened when you put the mouse-pointer over that picture...
